While there are many similarities between 3U and 6U VPX, the main difference is their size and potential for functionality. The “U” provided stands for rack-mount units and represents the stack height. Each unit measures 1.75 inches, making a 3U module 5.25 in, and a 6U module twice as tall, measuring 10.5 in.

Larger modules like the 6U VPX allow more connectors, processing power, I/O options, and support for higher-capacity systems. These strengths make a 6U module the better choice for applications requiring more performance and functionality with fewer size restrictions. 3U modules have less capabilities, but are smaller and lighter, making them ideal for applications with size and weight limits. Acromag produces 3U and 6U VPX modules that provide rugged, high-performance solutions tailored to diverse defense and aerospace requirements.
