Implementing Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet Solutions in the Embedded Space

Due to the requirements of assimilating increasingly large volumes of data and simultaneously reducing physical interconnection complexity, high-speed Ethernet networks are being deployed in more and more data endpoints. Data throughput, redundancy requirements, and the means to exchange various standardized and non-standardized information packets is driving new FPGA module processing technologies and communication facilitators such as TCP offload engines (TOE) like the unified wire silicon stack. This presentation will discuss the evolution of embedded Ethernet communication technology and explain the benefits and limitations when interfacing via the SBC, silicon stack hardware and FPGAs.
