Popular 8B isolated signal conditioner modules are now available from Acromag.
Tiny, low-cost 8B analog I/O modules provide high-performance front-end isolation and signal conditioning in an easy-to-use plug-in format.
A full line of 8B isolated signal conditioning modules are now available from Acromag. With more than 100 models, 8B modules interface to a wide variety of voltage, current, temperature, position, frequency, and strain measuring devices. The ±5V or 0-5V DC output makes an effective front-end for use with Acromag's Ethernet, Modbus, and Profibus analog input modules or directly to controllers and other instrumentation. The tiny 8B signal conditioners are only one-fifth the size of competing products, but they deliver instrument-level performance with superior specifications such as ±0.05% accuracy, ±0.02% linearity, 3- to 5-pole filtering, 1500Vrms isolation, low output noise and much more. Prices start at just $89 per module.
The 8B module's small size (1.11" x 1.65" x 0.4" or 28.1mm x 41.9mm x 10.2mm) is ideal for embedded or portable applications such as mobile test stands, defense systems, miniaturized security systems, process controls for manufacturing equipment, and practically any industrial data acquisition system. Using plug-in 8B modules, it is possible to implement high-performance isolated I/O on a scalable channel-by-channel basis for any embedded monitoring or measurement and control system. Since the 8B modules provide high-level analog voltage output, interfacing to a PC/104, CompactPCI, VMEbus, or proprietary data acquisition card is very easy.
The 8B family offers a wide variety of input modules to measure voltage, current, linearized RTD, linearized and non-linearized thermocouple, potentiometer, frequency, and strain gage signals. Wide-bandwidth (1kHz and 20kHz) voltage input modules and 2-wire transmitter interface modules support special applications. Process current and voltage output modules are also available to drive field devices and instruments.
Accessories include a selection of backpanels (2, 4, 8, or 16 channels) with screw-terminal inputs and outputs. Backpanels also have a DB25 header connector for interfacing 8B I/O signals directly to the user's data acquisition system. A power supply module in the 8B form-factor plugs into its own socket on the backpanel to accommodate input voltages of 7-34V DC and provide 5V DC output at 2A to power any combination of 8B signal conditioners.
Each 8B module isolates the field-side input or output signal with an optical isolation barrier rated at 1500Vrms. Common-mode rejection is 120dB by incorporating a 3-pole filter. Normal-mode rejection is 70dB at 60Hz. Additionally, field-side inputs or outputs are protected against accidental connection of line voltages up to 240V AC.
The operation and storage temperature range is -40 to 85°C with relative humidity from 0 95% non-condensing. All models are CE compliant and meet requirements of EN61000-6-4 (radiated/conducted emissions) and EN61000-6-2 (ESD/RF/EFT immunity). For operation in hazardous environments, North American UL Class I Division 2, and European Group II Category 3 approvals are pending.
