New temperature transmitters accept two thermocouple input signals to save money and consume less space.
Acromag’s new two-wire transmitters monitor a pair of linearized thermocouple/millivolt inputs from a space-saving package for only $160 per channel.
New from Acromag, the 656T contains two independent temperature transmitters in a single, inch-wide device. These loop-powered units accept universal thermocouple and millivolt input signal ranges, provide isolation, and output proportional 4-20mA DC signals. The output can also be linearized to the input sensor signal. 16-bit Sigma-Delta A/D converters deliver high-resolution for very accurate measurements. The full-featured dual channel 656T model is priced at $320 ($160 per channel), while an economy version with limited input ranges sells for $270. A single-channel version, the 655T, is also available for just $195. With high-performance, flexibility, and a cost-cutting, high-density design, the 656T is ideal for panel shops and end-users with restricted budgets and tight space requirements.
The 656T is also very easy to use. Selectable thermocouple input types offer the flexibility to fit many applications. DIP switch-configuration and self-ranging technologies speed installation without pots, jumpers, or software. One-step, push-button calibration simplifies field adjustments for faster and easier maintenance. Reverse-acting output capability enables inverse proportional control signals. CJC control only requires a millivolt source to calibrate modules. Plus, a configuration lockout safety feature prevents tampering and accidental changes.
Numerous performance enhancements ensure dependable operation and reliable measurements. The linearizer function provides an output that is linear to the temperature or millivolt signal. High-voltage isolation eliminates ground loops, reduces noise, and blocks transient signals. High-resolution Sigma-Delta A/D converters deliver superior accuracy for reliable measurements.
Besides consuming less space and lowering equipment costs, the dual-channel transmitter offers several other benefits. Since the 654T provides two independent high-voltage input isolation circuits, a loss of power or a failure on one channel has no effect on the other. The second channel can be used as a built-in spare for reduced downtime should the first channel fail. The spare channel becomes operational by simply moving the wired terminal block over to the vacant channel.
