Acromag releases new line of PMC I/O Modules with seven boards for analog and digital I/O applications.
Entering the market for PCI mezzanine cards (PMC), Acromag’s new PMC modules are based on their successful line of IndustryPack® I/O Modules.
Acromag’s new line of PCI mezzanine card (PMC) I/O modules are ideal for a broad range of industrial control applications. All seven new models are based on Acromag’s popular IndustryPack I/O modules which are used around the world in thousands of installations to provide high-performance analog and digital I/O functions. The modules plug into CompactPCI™ or VMEbus boards with industry-standard PMC slots. The PCI mezzanine card’s modular format enables multiple functions and high-density I/O on a single board to lower costs and save card slots. With its rugged design, open architecture, and high performance, the PMC concept is ideal for a wide variety of I/O applications. Typical uses include data acquisition, process control, test & measurement, and motion control. Extended temperature models are also available for operation from –40 to 85°C.
Four analog I/O modules perform high-speed and high-resolution A/D and D/A conversions. The PMC220 features 16 voltage output channels with 12-bit D/A and a settling time of 8µS. The PMC230 has eight channels with 16-bit D/A. For A/D conversion, Acromag offers the PMC330 with 16-bit resolution and the PMC341 with simultaneous sample & hold capability. The PMC341 converts eight channels at the same time and is capable of sampling all 16 channels in just 16µS. Prices for analog input modules range from $1100 - $1300.
Three digital I/O modules are available for monitoring and control applications. The PMC408 has 32 bidirectional I/O channels for 0-60V DC signals. The PMC470 features 48 bidirectional TTL-level I/O channels. For applications requiring optical isolation, Acromag offers the PMC440 with 32 isolated input channels. These three modules are priced at $675.
For easy integration of the PMC modules with Windows® 95/98/ME and NT/2000 applications, Acromag developed an ActiveX® (OLE) controls software package. ActiveX controls are object-based software components that function as drivers to interface the IP modules with compatible software development programs such as Microsoft® Visual C++™, and Visual Basic. ActiveX controls can also link I/O data to Human Machine Interface (HMI) process control applications, Microsoft Office® products such as Excel® and Access®, as well as many other desktop applications used to display and record data.
For connectivity with real time software application programs, Acromag offers C libraries for VxWorks® and other operating systems. The libraries provide generic routines (source code included) to handle reads, writes, interrupts, and other functions. Demonstration programs enable the developer to quickly exercise the I/O modules before attaching the routines to the application program. This diagnostic tool can save hours of troubleshooting and debugging.
