Acromag’s new APC8621 ($550) is a non-intelligent IndustryPack (IP) carrier with three IP slots in a half-length PCI card format. The APC8621 brings the benefits of IP modular I/O to PC computer systems with a small chassis that cannot accommodates full-length PCI cards. These benefits include the ability to mix and match various analog, digital, serial or other I/O modules on a single slot card to produce a custom I/O board with very high channel density that saves card cage slots and lower costs. The APC8621 is plug-and-play compatible, supports two interrupts per IP, and provides individually filtered and fused power to each IP. The card resides in memory space and allows full access to the IP’s I/O, ID and interrupt spaces enabling control from the PCI bus.

For easy integration of the APC8621 carrier card and IP modules with Windows^® 95/98/ME and NT/2000 applications, Acromag offers ActiveX^® (OLE) controls software package. ActiveX controls are object-based software components that function as drivers to interface the IP modules with compatible software development programs such as Microsoft^® Visual C++™, and Visual Basic ^®. ActiveX controls can also link I/O data to Human Machine Interface (HMI) process control applications, data acquisition programs like LabView^®, and Microsoft Office^® products such as Excel^® and Access^®.

The IP mezzanine’s modular format enables multiple functions and high-density I/O on a single board to lower costs and save card slots. With its rugged design, open architecture, and high performance, the IP concept is ideal for a wide variety of I/O applications. Typical uses include data acquisition, process control, test & measurement, motion control, and network data communication.
