Acromag Ethernet I/O expands capabilities of Siemens 353 Loop Controller for multi-loop and SCADA applications
Ethernet has gained wide acceptance in the industrial process control world as a viable local area network (LAN) solution. Today, Ethernet is also finding use on the sensor and data acquisition side of the controller. Acromag's BusWorks 900EN Series I/O modules put thermocouple, RTD, current, voltage, and discrete I/O signals directly on Ethernet. Ethernet can then be used to acquire sensor information from remote locations extending the I/O capability of controllers, such as the popular Siemens 353 Loop Controller.
Typical Installations
There are a number of ways Acromag Ethernet I/O can be used with the 353 controller. The devices communicate using a Modbus TCP/IP protocol. In a simple implementation, it extends the I/O of a single panelboard controller. A more advanced application might be to network multiple controllers located in various locations within a plant. In critical applications, various fault tolerant network configurations can be used to minimize the system affected by a failure of a network component or the network cable.

The Siemens Model 353 loop controller is designed to satisfy the needs of both continuous and discrete control - offering both advanced control and extensive I/O logic capability. Using Acromag 900EN Ethernet I/O modules, the 353 can easily and economically access sensor information at remote locations.
Common Applications
