New Products
New PMC modules feature a Virtex-5 FPGA with an embedded PowerPC core for high-performance I/O signal processing.
Acromag's new PMC I/O modules provide a Virtex-5 FPGA with hard core PowerPC for fast execution of the most complex and memory-intensive computing applications.
Acromag's new PMC-VFX modules feature a Xilinx® Virtex™-5 FPGA with a hard core PowerPC block that is reconfigurable for high-performance I/O processing and user-developed computing applications. Now users can offload CPU-intensive operations such as video/ 3D data processing or floating-point math for superior system performance. For fast data transfer in and out of the FPGA, the PMC-VFX provides large banks of DDR2 DRAM and dual-port SRAM for high-speed DMA transfer to the PCI bus. A high-throughput PCI-X interface ensures plenty of bandwidth to rapidly move data. An assortment of plug-in I/O extension modules offers great flexibility to interface various analog and digital I/O signal types. By streamlining the design and limiting the features to core functions needed for fast and easy implementation, Acromag makes FPGA-based computing accessible to many more applications. Boards start at $4950 with extended temperature (-40 to 85°C) and conduction-cooled models available.

FPGAs Go Green in Wind Turbine Control
Energy conservation is ever-growing in importance, both from environmental and personal perspectives. Using less energy will preserve resources and reduce consumer costs provided appropriate low-energy devices are made available, reliable, and put into commonplace use.
Successful green power generation requires that:
a) more power is produced than is consumed in generating the power, and
b) the mechanisms and control apparatus deployed yield sufficient payback to recapture the overall investment made for installation and a lifetime of maintenance.
Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology is currently playing a significant role in energy conservation. Wind turbine control is just one application where PMC modules with reconfigurable FPGAs are being used in renewable energy ventures.

Acromag News
Acromag is very excited to announce Dennis Pfleger as our new Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Embedded Computing products. Dennis is charged with supporting customers and representatives in the Eastern US and Canadian territories. He brings a wealth of experience to the position.
Dennis has a degree in Computer Science and spent a large part of his past career in the semiconductor and OEM board industries. He was a software engineer at Motorola Semiconductor (now Freescale) and also held positions as Technical Marketing Manager and Account Manager at Motorola Microsystems during the peak years of VMEbus products.
While at Motorola Microsystems, he often supported applications that included Acromag products. His customers spanned a broad range of applications including medical imaging, printing, military, petroleum and scientific research. He later served as Senior Account Manager at Chrysler Corp. with responsibility for networked microcontroller systems in Jeep vehicles.
After Motorola, Dennis worked for Microsoft in their Embedded Systems Group with responsibility for developing Mobile Software opportunities in all types of consumer and commercial vehicles. Most recently Dennis was Account Executive for Underwriters Laboratories with responsibility for EMC testing services for mobile and military components.
Dennis is also an amateur astronomer and uses his Meade "Go To" telescope whenever the Michigan skies present the opportunity.
Please help us welcome Dennis to our team.
