Acromag's Popular Industry Pack Family Continues to Grow and Evolve

Despite all the recent industry attention focused on PMC modules and PCI-based platforms, the venerable Industry Pack module remains the favored solution for many I/O applications. The Industry Pack's low-cost, high-density, and proven reliability are ideal for countless COTS, OEM and scientific research projects. And for this reason, Acromag has continued to introduce new designs and increase software support for this popular platform. Recent releases include re-configurable FPGA I/O modules for customized I/O processing, counter/timer modules with quadrature capabilities, and Win32 DLL drivers for Windows-based software applications.

Acromag offers one of the largest selections of Industry Pack I/O modules. Numerous models are available to perform a broad range of I/O functions including A/D, D/A, digital I/O, serial communication, counter/timer, quadrature, and FPGA signal processing. You can also find Acromag Industry Pack carrier cards for VME, PCI, and CompactPCI systems. Many IP modules are offered with several channel capacities to help you economically match your I/O requirements, and most models support extended temperature ranges for use in harsh environments.

Application Spotlight
FOR-A Corporation of America has teamed up with Vienna, VA-based Industrial Video Solutions (IVS) to offer a ground breaking digital video web/sheet break monitoring system built around a network of FOR-A VFC-300 variable cameras.

With frame rates up to 300 fps and one-frame synchronization (3 milliseconds) – five times faster than current systems –the VFC-300 system provides industries that employ continuous web processing, such as paper mill operators, with a fast, precise and affordable solution for detecting and analyzing sheet breaks at any location of any speed machine. The VFC-300 is fast enough to zoom into small areas at high resolution and to show how each fault progresses in a series of subsequent frames. The system is fully digital, which eliminates the need for extensive rack-based hardware. Digital technology and fewer components facilitate quick plug-and-play installation and operation at the maximum availability rate with only few spare parts.

IVS evaluated an Industry Pack system proposed by Acromag consisting of PCI Carriers and select Digital I/O Modules running ActiveX/OLE Software in a Windows® environment. This Acromag system was selected due to the compact form factor, high MTBF values for IP Modules, technical support, and cost competitiveness.

FOR-A America production facilities in the USA will integrate the Acromag I/O modules within the controller of this next-generation video inspection monitoring system. These systems will be assembled in the USA for sale and distribution across the U.S., European, and Asian markets.

Innovation Products, Inc. and Spectro Associates will provide coverage and support for the production facilities.

Ask the I/O Experts
Question: Can Acromag's RS232/422/485 serial communication Industry Pack modules accommodate custom baud rates?

Answer: Yes. We offer a family of modified IP500 communication modules that can be ordered with user-specified baud rates. These modules have a crystal that can be programmed for your custom baud rate.
