Acromag's Embedded Bus Board Newsletter - March/April 2006

Featured Product

Acromag releases PMC high-speed analog I/O with 64MHz A/D and a user-New customizable I/O modules perform high-speed, high-resolution A/D and D/A functions under the control of a user-programmable FPGA enabling use of special algorithms and logic routines.configurable FPGA for custom signal processing.

New customizable I/O modules perform high-speed, high-resolution A/D and D/A functions under the control of a user-programmable FPGA enabling use of special algorithms and logic routines.

New PMC-AX1065/2065/3065 modules enable users to combine extremely high-speed A/D sampling with user-configured FPGA signal processing. Application-specific logic routines and algorithms can be downloaded into the on-board reconfigurable FPGA, a Xilinx® Virtex-II® with up to 32,256 logic cells, to control operation of the I/O channels. These modules are ideal for high-speed, high-resolution A/D and D/A functions. Inputs are sampled at 64 MSPS and processed by the FPGA without CPU intervention. Typical uses include sonar, sounding systems, satellite downlink controllers, automated test equipment, and simulation instrumentation. Modules start at $2700 with varying performance levels and optional extended temperature operation (-40 to 85°C) available to meet a broad range of requirements. read more

Important Industry Pack Update

Status of the update to the IP320, IP440-x and IP470

Acromag has a long-standing policy to design and market products that meet the needs of OEM and military customers. In particular, these customers require stable designs with long product life cycles. Over the years, Acromag has made lifetime buys for parts that have been discontinued to ensure that we can supply boards for our existing customer base years into the future. In other cases, Acromag has redesigned boards to maintain form, fit, and functional equivalency.

In keeping with this policy, Acromag has redesigned three of our Industry Pack models: the IP320, IP440-x and IP470. Many parts used on these boards have been discontinued, and we are rapidly using up our existing stock of components. Models IP320A, IP440A-x and IP470A will replace the original three models. These replacements will function as drop-in replacements for the original models, and all specifications will be equal to or better than the original designs.

Acromag has enough components on hand to fill all existing orders for the IP320, IP440-x and IP470 and plans to accept orders through July 2006, assuming components remain available. Currently, extended temperature versions (-E) are in limited supply and customers should contact Acromag for current availability. As with all Acromag products, we will support these models for at least seven years after their end-of-life date.

Acromag will start accepting orders for the IP320AIP440A-x and IP470A and their extended temperature (-E) versions on May 1, 2006.

Demo units are available for customers who would like to test these replacement models prior to purchasing. Please contact Acromag or your local representative for information on obtaining a demo unit.

Application Spotlight

PCS Systems Integrators & Contractors of Fairfield, NJ recently selected Acromag Industry Pack (IP) Modules over two other competitors. The system’s I/O is incorporated into a plant-wide control system for monitoring high-power fault events.

Acromag IP Modules provide a solid re-configurable system, high density I/O, extended temperature range operation and QNX OS support. PCS chose the AcPC8630E 3U CompactPCI carrier board with IP330E 16-bit analog input and IP440-2E isolated digital input modules. An IPSW-API-QNX software package for QNX simplifies software/hardware integration.

Since 1979, PCS has been providing complete monitoring systems for industrial automation, transportation systems, and Industrial and Control Networking. They are particularly experienced in PLC and SCADA systems, as well as radio and telephone telemetry systems.
