RoHS and WEEE compliance by Acromag Inc. PDF, 48KB
Acromag Inc. is a company that is very sensitive to the environment. We strive everyday to improve our world and leave it better for future generations. We are interested in the initiatives lead by the European Union (EU) and plan to be an active participant in supporting their programs.
RoHS
Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) requires the total or near-total elimination of six hazardous elements from electronic products sold in the European Union. (Pb, Cd, Cr, Hg, PBB, or PBDE)
All electronic products manufactured and sold by Acromag Inc. are considered "Monitoring and Control Equipment." Although it is possible to use this equipment in other applications, the principle usage as well as the intended usage is for monitoring and control. This classification provides an exemption from the July 2006 compliance deadline.
Even with this exemption, Acromag Inc. has fully classified all components and approved suppliers for RoHS compliance. Where possible, only RoHS components are used.
Many Acromag customers use electronic instruments in critical implementations and have requested that Lead (PB) not be removed from soldering processes until a proven history of reliability exists.
Although Acromag will continue to use RoHS parts where available, Acromag will manufacture using lead (PB) in our soldering processes.
Future Plan: To carefully monitor Lead-free soldering processes to prepare for future Lead-Free manufacturing.
WEEE
"Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (WEEE) is an initiative to control the disposal of electronic equipment sold in the European Union.
Acromag currently marks all products shipped to the EU members with a "Wheeled-bin" as required by WEEE. This program started on August 13, 2005.
Acromag intends to fully comply with the regulations imposed by each member state. Currently, costs are impossible to estimate. Acromag does not agree to pay any disposal costs until such a time that costs can be anticipated accurately.
Disposal procedures are developing in each member state as well. Acromag is very interested in supporting such efforts. Because Acromag equipment is often installed in areas that normally have chemicals present, the return of used equipment is not an acceptable situation.
Future Plan: Continue to mark products intended for the EU and to monitor the development of waste disposal procedures.
